InterAct of Wake Co. Holiday Bazaar

This year local designers with ASID had the opportunity to volunteer at InterAct of Wake County. Each year InterAct sponsors a Holiday Bazaar. Toys and items are donated from the community and certain rooms in the agency are setup where mothers and their children are invited to "shop" for each other. They have the chance to select gifts for each other, wrap them and present them to their families.

Our job was to help categorize and organize the donated toys into age groups and tally an approximate number of toys donated for that age group.

Last year InterAct was able to serve over 150 families and 350 children through this Holiday Bazaar.

There is still a great need of gifts for male & female teenagers, if you feel inclined to donate. The agency can't sponsor this without the help of the community, what an incredible opportunity!

Our Town- Our Favorites!

This past week we had an opportunity to visit some of our favorite businesses in the Triangle Area who we work with on many projects. It is the people and companies like these that make our job fun and rewarding.

The above photo features all the employees of Triangle Tile. They hosted a Designer event to show us the latest and greatest in the numerous tile options.

The featured artwork above was a sampling from artist Max Hayslette who had his fall show this past Thursday night at Bev's Fine Art. I was so impressed to meet him and see his versatile style. Bev's Fine Art truly has a wonderful gallery, Bev and her team are very talented. Please check out her gallery if you are in the North Raleigh area.

Fall Furniture Market 2011

All Aboard!

We traveled to High Point for 2 days last week care of the "Gray Squirrel" or Amtrak from downtown Raleigh right into the heart of Furniture Market. We thought we'd focus on the ins and outs of market in this post to give you an idea of what all the excitement is really about!

Market happens twice a year in High Point and spans the course of 10 days in both the spring and fall. Various vendors (furniture companies, accessories lines, lighting companies, art galleries...you name it!) showcase their products for designers and trades people to familiarize themselves with current items and new introductions.

When asked why exactly we attend Furniture Market, we typically have a few goals in mind while cruising through the vast array of showrooms.

We're usually looking for new vendors and product lines to offer our clients.

If we have certain projects in mind, we'll test color consistencies with the paints & fabrics that we may be working with.

We'll confirm product dimensions and test comfort levels of certain pieces to better inform our clients on the goodies they are purchasing.
Ehhh....

ZZZZzzzzz....

We'll pet some of the fabrics to make sure they're suitably soft and luxurious.

We'll look for versatile pieces to keep in mind for certain projects.

We'll look for the perfect item to tie a room together and complete a space.

And we're always looking for fun fresh ideas and inspiration.

The world of interior design is always evolving and Furniture Market helps to keep us in the know so we can offer our clients the latest and greatest in design!

Happy Halloween!

Halloween is approaching tomorrow; I thought it would be fun to find some awesome inspirations in design of "ORANGE" and how it can be a wonderful color if used correctly in a room.
These are some of my favorites:

Southern Ideal Home Show

This past weekend we had the opportunity to participate in the Home Show at the Fairgrounds here in Raleigh. It was very interesting in the reaction we had to our boards of projects of our "before and afters". There were lots of people who asks interesting questions and it was great to educate the public on how we work as designers. Lots of vendors......glad we were one of them!

During our plant tour at Hickory Chair we were so pumped to find a mirror or our own being completed. It was so cool to see our sketch come to life! As you can see it really comes to life in our clients home.

Hickory Chair Day #2- This chair is like a handkercheif

Upholstery Plant tour here we come!

The patterns used for the wood pieces that make up the upholstery.

Our favorite employee of the tour: He is in charge of new "UHPOLESTEERY" pieces.

"This chair is like a handkercheif; it is made for showing not blowing"

He can take an engerinerred drawing (see below) and create it! This craft is amazing!

The finishing booths- we love Hickory Chair because of the numerous finishes they can do.

The sofa's waiting in line to be 8-way hand tied.

Two men per sofa to accomplish the 8-way hand tie. I can see me trying to do this I would have a mess!!!

The completed result! This is why it is so comfty and will hold up. Many companies claim to have this feature, but they do not!

Laying out complex fabric patterns before they are cut.

The fabrics waiting to be applied! Looks overwhelming to me!

The seamstresses making the cushion covers; arm covers; skirts; pillows etc.....

One of the very talented upholsters.

"Tufting"- it looks funny from the inside.

Check back tomorrow for more pictures! We have lots more to show!
